Lake of Stars 2008

August 23, 2008 · Filed Under Events

Malawi’s Lake of Stars Festival which takes place this October is the unpolished diamond of the very repetitive festival circuit. Taking place on the shore of Africa’s third largest lake, Lake Malawi, this unique 3 day event promotes African music and culture and attracts international acts to share the stage.

Since its debut in 2004 the festival has seen acts such as, Groove Armada’s Andy Cato, Felix B (Basement Jaxx), Yewande (US), the Chibuku DJs, Bugz in the Attic’s Mikey General, Ben Westbeech (Brownswood), Rodney P & Skitz (1Xtra), Annie Mac (Radio 1), Blue African Skies and Goldfish.

The festival emphasises the wealth of talent that is bubbling in Africa with musical performances from local artists such as Tikhu Vibrations, Wambali, the Black Missionaries, Lucius Banda and Joseph Tembo and a host of Djs, gospel choir, beat boxers and even circus performers.

This year the line-up is once again a unique blend of local and international acts with Seth Lakeman, Mary Anne Hobbes, Kormac (Live), Scratch Perverts and Bodytonic Djs to name but a few.

For those of you unable to make the trip out to Africa this year, fear not- a host of Lake of Stars events are held throughout the UK and Ireland in a bid to raise money for Malawian charities.

Tonight the Bodytonic Lake of Stars crew host a double whammy starting in the Bernard Shaw and following onto the POD in Dublin. Those of you who can make it will be able to enjoy performances from Dj Buddha, Aoife, Bic and Afrodrum.
