Florin Marica aka DJ Marika is one of the few that put a shoulder to the underground scene and culture in Romania, when back in 1994 he hosted Blue Lines radio show at Fun Radio. The show was all about broadcasting electronic and alternative rock rare, good music for those interested. Meantime he starts “Fire in Water” project, a music band that won several prizes at Assos New Tallent Festival and Klub Bizzar.
After a couple of years of craving for a larger audience Marika moved at 2M+/Activ FM radio station hosting the Dance Time show. The radio station later on changed its name into UltraFM. Starting from 1998 he becomes editor and producer of Metropolis and Rockada TV shows on Atomic TV – the first Romanian music channel.
By this he remains maybe the only promoter and underground music dean involved in three nationwide audience shows. Meanwhile, his Activ FM show changes name into Selectro and switches the vibe to a more underground approach, guest staring DJs, artists and bands from the underground culture.
For several years Ultra FM station endorsed and helped lots of music bands such as Suie Paparude, The Grooveoholics/Sunday People, Paranoia, Hypno, NSK (DJVasile, Electric Brother & Matze), Junkyard, Alien Pimp, D-laid, Hard B (Unu’) and many more. And as a club DJ he really put some effort in keeping alive The Web Club, where he played at `full house` parties. He placed 2nd in 2005 at the “Best Newcomer” category, 10th in 2006 and 9th in 2007 for “Best DJ” category at the Nights.ro Awards. He was invited to play at after hours parties organized by Nights.ro and Love Events in clubs such as Magique, Nemo, Cuba del Sol, Tha Spot and Gossip.
Soon to follow were the invitations of Kristal Glam Club and, in 2005, from Studio Martin Club and Peninsula/Felsziget Festival. He finished 2nd place at Heineken Thirst 2005 DJs competition (after Raoul Russu) and soon followed several gigs throughout the country.
