by citybeat on Jul.29, 2008, under News
KOKO Bio
KOKO begain life as a Victorian theatre back in the 1800’s, known as Palace Theatre in the 1940’s it was converted into a radio studio used by the BBC and after a short spell as a cinema in the 60’s its was transformed into a music venue staging acts like the Sex Pistols and the Clash. In 1982 it was taken over by Visage and renamed The Camden Palace which hosted the earliest gigs by the Eurythmics and the first UK performance of a rising star named Madonna.
Throughtout the 80’s Camden Palace was one of the hottest clubs in London. With regular performances by Wham and Boy George, Prince would hold extravagant after show parties and with the likes of Grace Jones flying in from the USA its legendary status was assured.
The Camden Palace also played a major role in the rave scene with long running House Partys.
The club closed in 2004 for a 6 month multi-million pound restoration to create a 21st century entertainment venue with a 1,500 crowd capacity. The club features a cutting edge JBL sound system and state of the art lighting.
Since reopening KOKO has become the official venue of the Album Chart Show on ITV and has recently hosted Madonna, Oasis, Paul Weller, Elton John and many more star performers.

by citybeat on Jul.27, 2008, under News
Citybeat VS Guests
Let the battle begin
Our very own Miss Fable has offered to start a competition in the next few weeks and it goes a little something like this.
- Citybeat DJ’s will go head to head with guest DJ’s
- All guests must send there best mixes to fable@citybeatradio.org to take part in this mass challenge!
- Fable will choose a selection of the very best mixes and each week she will pick a Citybeat DJ from a hat and put them head to head with the guest.
- The Citybeat DJ will then have 1 week to get prepared before stepping up to the challenge.
- Citybeat DJ & Guest DJ to win each round must get friends and fans to send in there votes to fable fable@citybeatradio.org Or be in the shoutbox on the night.
- Each competition will consist of 1 Citybeat DJ & 1 Guest DJ, fable will be mixing up genres, so both DJ’s skills will win the night (Example: Citybeat DJ plays House VS Guest DJ plays D&B) and so on.
- Whoever wins the first round will then be placed into the next round and so on until there are only two left. This could be two guests or two citybeat, 2 girls or two boys 1 girl 1 boy, either way each final winner will go head to head.
Winner will get a full months free advertising on promotional mp3 & a full profile page on Strictlytrance.com (courtesy of Beats Media) and they will also be offered airplay everyday for 1 week on Citybeat Radio
PS: Fable stated she will not be favouring the Citybeat bunch. she said the winners will be the ones who work hard and take a bold step into the competition, without the guidance behind them.
Fable also announced she will have no control over votes, all votes must be voted for by listeners, fans and friends, they will be passed on to a vote counter and the winner will announced in the shoutbox by the vote counter!
Details of the start date will be announced in the next week, so make sure you pop back in to find out.
Please leave a message below for those who are wanting to be involved in this competition- and also email fable with your competition entry mix and profile details.

The Glade Festival July 2008
by citybeat on Jul.08, 2008, under News

The Event
Having been the renegade dance stage at Glastonbury, The Glade exploded out into its own multi-genre music festival and has steadily grown to be the premier cutting edge electronic music event in the UK. With a strong aversion to all things corporate and mainstream and with a great love of all things alternative, underground and interesting, the Glade has a mind boggling array of artistic ideas; musically, sonically, visually and extra sensorily, from all over the world..
Held in Berkshire (only 50 minutes drive from London), this popular electronic music festival is unsponsored, shunning the “bollocks of the corporate world“ in favour of “keeping it real… in creating a space for people to dance and laugh, connect and reflect, teach, learn and be here now”.
The event is free of sponsorship and that is probably why you won’t have heard of it. It is a break away from the dance tents at Glastonbury and is arguably the UK’s biggest electronic dance music festival from July 18-20
