Fatboy Slim - Big Beach Boutique 4 (September)
by citybeat on Mar.18, 2008, under News
Fatboy slims legendary beach party will return to the shores of sunny Brighton & Hove in full force across two separate gigs in September.
Fatboy Slim (Norman Cook) needs no introduction and has long been an international player since the days of “Praise you” hit every TV and radio station from Chicago to Tallinn. A lesser known fact on the international scene was the great beach parties Norman once held, completely free in his home town of Brighton (On the south coast of England, London on Sea to locals), right down on the beach between the infamous Palace and West piers.
In 2002 Norman held his second “Big beach boutique” shindig to an estimated crowd of two hundred and fifty thousand people, needless to say this wasn’t planned to be such a massive crowd puller and boutique twisted into barmyness, which ground the city to a standstill. An event to go down in history as being totally unexpected by everyone. This unfortunate turn resulted in traffic grid lock for hours, two fatalities and a massive clear up operation afterwards. A few of you may have seen the DVD and wowed at an event which was on the brink of being shut down by the local authorities before it even started. What you see in the movie is the geniue combination of the UK’s clubland and the great atmosphere of Brighton beach in what could have turned into a total washout for those that got in, let alone those that were still stuck on the outskirts of the City.
All subsequent events were canned until new years in 2007 when Norman did a third, fenced, ticketed and secured, Big beach Boutique to a crowd of nineteen thousand people in the winter wind and rain, with tickets only available to residents of central Brighton. The night was however a success and David Guetta played alongside Norman.
On February 6th, 2008, Brighton & Hove City Council approved the initial plans for two events this year on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th September, subject to the promoter, Loudsound Events, meeting the costs off all safety measures and operational plans recommended by the interagency Safety Advisory Group and entering into a formal contract with the Council.
Both events will have a twenty-two thousand capacity and be held on the hard standing of Madeira Drive, between the Palace pier and Brighton Marina. Again the events will be ticketed and sold, in the first instance, to people who live within the Brighton (BN) postcode - so they are ostensibly local shows and will follow the same setup and layout of the 2007 New Years Day show. Each show will run from 5pm to 9.30pm and no-doubt will have some top supporting acts.
Final details are still to be released from the promoter. With the limited availability, one thing is for sure, tickets will be like hot cakes and sell out within hours if not minutes!
A State Of Trance 350
by citybeat on Mar.18, 2008, under News
The 350 episode of our favourite trance show will be in Belgium on 1st May. They didn’t say anything because they weren’t sure about the location.
So, like Armin says, we receive a great trance treatment this week. A lot of new tunes and great songs.
